State Specialized Design Institute (GSPI JSC) is a company of Rosatom State Corporation, which implements unique projects all over the world.

Today the institute successfully carries out complex design and survey works, taking into account environmental requirements and energy efficiency criteria. Product development is performed using modern end-to-end information modeling technologies. Project activities are managed at all stages of the life cycle using the Project Management Information System (PMIS).

Over 76 years of work, the Institute has established itself as a highly professional and reliable business partner.

1953

1948

State Specialized Design Institute (GSPI JSC) was established as GSPI-12 by Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR dd. February 8, 1948 based on the design institute NII-9 and GSPI-11 Leningrad Institution branch in Moscow.

1953

As far back as in 1953 the Institute was at the origins of the Russian nuclear industry and designed the equipment and benches to fabricate and test fuel elements and assemblies (FE and FA) for the world’s first nuclear power plant commissioned in Obninsk, in 1954 and the world’s first nuclear icebreaker Lenin.

1970s

In the early 1970s, the design of specialized plants Signal in Obninsk and Tensor in Dubna began. Later in Dubna the Institute was entrusted with the design of buildings and structures of the world-famous Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

1987

In 1987, a scientific and production complex with the Sun solar power plant, the world’s largest solar-powered metallurgical furnace, was commissioned in Uzbekistan following the GSPI design.

1990s

Many design solutions implemented at different times at nuclear industry facilities are still unique and have no analogues in national construction. Combining innovations and extensive experience, in the 1990s GSPI JSC took the leading position in construction geodesy, metrological support, monitoring of building structures, development and manufacture of automated systems.

2005

From 2005, in addition to video-based measurement, GSPI started developing automated deformation monitoring systems for building structures based on motorized (robotized) electronic tachometers. These systems proved their efficiency in monitoring long-span structures, which account for the majority of accidents in construction.

2009

In March 2009, an entry was made to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities on the establishment of an Open Joint Stock Company State Specialized Design Institute through restructuring in the form of transformation.

2015

Due to the entry into force of Federal Law No. 99-FZ, May 5, 2014, «On Amendments to Chapter 4 of Part One of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation and on Invalidating Certain Provisions of Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation, on May 15, 2015, a record was made in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities on the change of the name of Open Joint Stock Company «State Specialized Design Institute» to Joint Stock Company «State Specialized Design Institute» (GSPI JSC).

2017

In September 2017, the contract for construction of the Center for Nuclear Technology Research and Development in the city of El Alto, Bolivia, was signed between GSPI JSC and Bolivian Nuclear Energy Agency. For Rosatom, this is the first large-scale project in Latin America.
In 2017, the MBIR project received a favorable opinion from «Glavgosekspertiza Rossii». Today, the MBIR NRF, a multipurpose research nuclear facility, is being built in Dimitrovgrad under the design of GSPI JSC. The implementation of this project will expand the range of research on new fuels and materials, as well as almost three times reduce the timeframe for conducting such research.

2019

In 2019, work began on the design of the world’s first onshore small nuclear power plant (SNPP) based on the latest RITM-200H reactor unit.

2021

In March 2021, design documentation was approved for the construction of the radiological building of the East-Siberian Cancer Center in Irkutsk. The building is designed to diagnose and treat oncological diseases. GSPI JSC is fulfilling the role of General Designer and General Contractor.
In May 2021, Nuclear Medicine Center in the city of Khimki, built under GSPI JSC design, welcomed its first patients. The unique facility, designed with a «smart home» system, became the first medical facility in the Russian Federation to pass LEED certification.

2022

At the end of 2022, construction of a new building for the Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Center was completed. In 2023, the first patients were admitted to the building. The new building made it possible to provide specialized medical care to more children.

2022-2023

In 2022 and 2023, the first industrial facilities of the Center for Nuclear Technology Research and Development (CNTRD) in Bolivia were put into trial operation. The construction of the center will make a huge contribution to the development of science, medicine, agriculture and education in Bolivia.

Products

GSPI JSC has extensive experience in concurrent engineering of medical, research, industrial and civil facilities. More than 100 large industrial facilities, more than 80 research centers, and more than 30 unique developments in the field of scientific work have been implemented under the projects of GSPI JSC.

Small Nuclear Power Plants (SNPP)

The project being implemented by GSPI JSC involves the construction of a small nuclear power plant near the village of Ust-Kuyga in the Ust-Yansky Ulus of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) with a RITM-200N reactor facility with a total electrical capacity of not less than 55 MW.

The extension and restoration of the center made it possible to increase the provision of specialized medical care to a larger number of children. The building was erected using BIM technologies. The building is equipped with modern medical, technological and engineering equipment with automated controls that eliminate manual labor as much as possible.
Construction of the building was completed at the end of 2022. In 2023, the first patients were admitted to the new building.

The multifunctional medical center is designed to provide high-tech medical care to adult patients with malignant neoplasms, some systemic lesions, as well as a number of non-tumor diseases.
The center is designed to meet the requirements of the LEED certification system, which is the world’s most famous and popular green building rating system.

In 2019, the «Multifunctional Complex» was put into operation, designed by JSC GSPI for the Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk for the 29th World Winter Universiade.
The complex designed consists of two blocks. The first block includes gymnastics, fitness and training games halls; in addition, there is the possibility of transforming one of the gyms into a catering room with seating for 1000 people. During the Universiade, the second building housed a sports and recreation complex and a religious center.

Center for Nuclear Technology Research and Development (CNTRD) in Bolivia is equipped with a research nuclear facility based on a water-water reactor with a nominal power of 200 kW, a multipurpose irradiation center based on an industrial gamma plant, as well as a cyclotron and radiopharmacy complex, engineering structures and various research laboratories.
The construction of CNTRD will ensure the widespread use of radiation technologies in agriculture, medicine, industry and other important areas of human activity.

MBIR NRF is a multipurpose nuclear research facility. MBIR will replace the currently operating fast neutron research facility BOR-60. The MBIR research reactor will expand the range and reduce by almost three times the time required for research into new fuels and materials currently being carried out at operating research reactors.
